After a lack of twenty years, Kawasaki returned to MotoGP as a works team in 2003 using their first competition bicycle with a 4-stroke engine, the ZX-RR. The 2003 race period proved hard, but 2004 saw the arrival of Japanese driver Shinya Nakano and a lot of development progress have been made. The 2006 model came full of attention catching cowlings and a newly created inline 4 cylinder 990cc motor bursting with power. At French GP, Kawasaki battled for pole place because of group driver Shinya Nakano's superb work. Nakano at Dutch GP, won a podium finish with his 2nd placing that's Kawasakis most readily useful ever complete.
