A long and Glorious History
The 66th Armored Regiment could be the oldest armored unit in the usa Army, with heritage dating through the innauguration of Tank Service in February 1918. After serving with distinction in France through the initial World War, the 66th once again saddled up for worldwide duty, landing M4 Sherman tanks throughout the amphibious intrusion of French Morocco in December 1942. The 66th fought through North Africa, and took part in tough combat through the intrusion of Sicily. Going into action on European front part, the 66th landed on coast of Normandy on June 9th, 1944, a short while later going inland to fight the determined defenders among the list of difficult bocage (hedgerow) landscape. Some of the bitterest combat occurred over the strategic city of Saint-Lo, when the 66th's tenacity and heroism carried your day the Allies.
