With a powerful 8.8cm weapon capable of taking out fully Russian T-34s and KV-1s from range, plus armor as much as 200mm dense, the Elefant hefty tank destroyer was a solid possibility. Originally known as the Ferdinand, 90 were created by might 1943 plus inside their first combat action within the Battle of Kursk that July, they are believed to have accounted for over 500 Russian tanks. But after Kursk these were withdrawn for an overhaul and came back in February 1944 re-named the Elefant. They were active in Italy and on the Eastern Front, even being thrown in to the protection of Berlin as WWII drew to a detailed in Europe.
