The Hawk T1A is a modified Hawk T1, that is designed to change the Hawker Hunter inside RAF's Tactical Weapons Devices. A complete of 89 aircraft had been transformed into carry two underwing AIM-9L Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and a centreline gun pod. Through the 1980s, the RAF began making use of TWU Hawks into the Mixed Fighter Force (MFF) concept; the intention must be to attach three of four Hawks to a Phantom or Tornado interceptor, that could guide them which is composed of effective radar onto enemy objectives. That is as well as the variant employed by the RAF's Red Arrows display team; the underbody weapon pod could be used to transport oil the display smoke system.[citation needed]
